Revolutionizing the future of photovoltaic energy and mobility by using carbon fiber and bio-resins to create ultra-lightweight and recyclable panels. This is the goal of an innovative research and development project born from the collaboration between the Italian companies ACS (Advanced Composites Solutions), a global leader in carbon fiber composites with locations in Emilia Romagna and Abruzzo, and Levante, a startup specializing in alternative energy solutions.

The project is funded by the European Union through PNRR funds and benefits from the scientific contribution of the University of Catania. It was recently presented at CES, the leading innovation technology trade show, held in Las Vegas, USA.

The photovoltaic panels currently under development are not only ultra-light, very thin, and glass-free, but also feature exceptional durability and class-A surface quality. Furthermore, they are designed to become a structural, aesthetic, and fully integrated part of the final product (such as a car, boat, or other transport vehicle), redefining photovoltaic applications in various sectors and overcoming traditional limitations.

This unique combination of features, including lightness, thinness, rigidity, and aesthetic quality, allows the panels to function in vehicles not only as photovoltaic solutions but also as structural and design elements for products like roofs, hoods, and body parts.

Thanks to ACS’s expertise in composite engineering and motorsports, combined with Levante’s skills, this innovation is set to revolutionize photovoltaic technology in the automotive and mobility sectors, paving the way for new and exciting opportunities.
