ACS (Advanced Composites Solutions) Srl, a company specialized in the design and production of carbon fiber components (and other composite materials) for the automotive, marine, aerospace, and industrial sectors, has developed, in collaboration with the University of Catania (Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture), a new manufacturing process aimed at creating new materials for the fiber-reinforced composites sector, while promoting the adoption of eco-friendly, recyclable resins integrated into automated production processes aligned with circular industry principles.
The innovative solutions, developed within the MAGISTRA project (acronym for "MAteriali compositi di nuova Generazione Innovativi Sostenibili Tecnologici Riciclabili Avanzati”, in English “New generation composite materials: innovative, sustainable, technological, recyclable, advanced”), funded with the contribution of the Abruzzo Region under the PR FESR Abruzzo 2021-2027, are eco-friendly thanks to the use of biochar-rich matrices and the use of specially designed reagents to facilitate the recycling of thermoset matrices.
This process will allow the recovery of waste materials and/or products that have reached the end of their useful life, making them suitable for reuse in the same production processes from which they originate.
